Lubricants

Lube makes sex and toys more comfortable, and the right one depends on how you’ll use it. Our range covers water-based, silicone-based and hybrid lubricants, organic and paraben-free formulas, flavoured lubes and thicker anal lubes from Sliquid, Lubido, YES, Loving Joy and Doc Johnson.

Water-based, silicone or hybrid?

Water-based lube is the all-rounder. It's safe with every condom and every toy material, washes off easily and is unlikely to stain. It can get tacky over longer sessions, but a few drops of water bring it back. Silicone-based lube lasts much longer and stays slippery in water, which makes it good for shower sex and massage, though it can damage some silicone toys, and it will make shower floors slippery too. Hybrids blend water and silicone for a silky, longer-lasting feel; treat them like silicone-based lube where your toys are concerned.

Lube and condoms

Never use oil-based products, including massage oils and coconut oil, with latex condoms: oil weakens latex and can cause it to break. Water-based and silicone-based lubes are both condom-safe.

Sensitive skin

If you have sensitive skin or are prone to thrush, some people find glycerine-free, fragrance-free formulas more comfortable. Sliquid and YES both offer organic options, and many of our lubes are paraben-free.

Anal and flavoured lube

For anal play, a thicker lube stays put and cushions better; browse anal sundries. Flavoured lubes are made for oral sex.

How much?

More than you'd expect, and reapply whenever things start to feel tacky. For massage oils and gels, see massage, and for protection, see condoms.

Common questions

Is lube safe if we're trying to conceive? Some lubricants can affect how sperm move. If you're trying for a baby, look for a lube labelled fertility-friendly, and ask your GP or a pharmacist if you're unsure.

Can I use lube during pregnancy? Water-based lube is widely used during pregnancy. If you have any concerns, check with your midwife or GP.

Does lube go off? Yes. Check the date on the bottle, and replace it if the texture, colour or smell changes.

What goes well with lube? Almost everything, but it matters most with dildos, masturbators and butt plugs, where a generous amount makes a real difference to comfort.
