Vibrator Glossary

Updated: Nov 24, 2019

Which features do what? And which features will suit you best?

Dildo vs Vibrator.

Terms occasionally used interchangeably but make sure you’re aware of what you’re getting.

Dildo is traditionally a non-moving, non-vibrating device which can be used for manual stimulation.

Vibrators as the name suggests are built with some type of automatic stimulation ability, be it vibrations, pulsations, moving air to allow often quicker and higher quality stimulation.

Modes

Most vibrators offer a range of speeds so you can find the perfect one for your sexual needs or for the right point of your pleasure. Many have dual motors that can work together or independently. Most operate by cycling through each mode via a single press of the main button.

Waterproof

Simply means it offers varying degrees of water resistance. Some can be cleaned off under a running tap whilst others are fully submersible.

Almost all of our vibrators are fully waterproof, with many of them meeting IPX6 or IPX7 standards meaning plenty of bath time or shower fun without fear of damaging it.

Heating

Simply means as well as vibration it also comes with a gentle heating system built in. For some a cold piece of plastic or silicone can be a turn off so these are a great way to avoid that initial barrier.

Style

Vibrators don’t automatically have to look like the male organ. Through modern technology they are now crafted in all sorts of shapes and sizes with some looking so good you would happily display it decoratively on your coffee table! So find the one that speaks to you in terms of look.

Pulsation

Some now offer pulsation technology that creates unique sexual sensations. This can mean the walls of the material pulse or the head or tip itself and pulsate in various directions.

Power

Two types are commonly available, mains powered (plug-in) and battery powered.

Mains offer more durability and usually quicker micro-cycles of vibrations but MUST be kept away from water for obvious reasons.

Battery offers more portability, freedom to explore and the ability to easily take it anywhere. Some are also waterproof enough to use in the shower.

Some battery powered ones need user changeable batteries (such as with your TV remote) whilst other vibrators use built in batteries that are rechargeable and don’t need user replacement. The built-in type usually ensures a more seamlessly crafted product which can help the overall feel and experience. It also avoids having to scrabble around for replacement batteries.

Hopefully now armed with a better understanding of what these terms actually mean you can be more informed about choosing the right ones for you.

Have fun!
